About Me – The Modern Nomad Life Brand! Purpose Hi, I’m Corey, creator of The Modern Nomad Life brand. A glimpse into my website and virtual home: themodernnomadlife.com I am like you, and aspire to do life at my fullest potential. If you landed on my page, and this section, hopefully it inspires you along your own journey! I am about to explore, embrace and embark on a nomad lifestyle in the modern era. I created this space for anyone seeking deeper meaning, purpose and guidance to creating a life filled with ample opportunity of self-discovery, values alignment and a pursuit of joy! I want to help others get out of their comfort zone in ways that are practical and adventurous! What is a nomad you might ask? “a member of a people having no permanent abode, and who travel from place to place to find fresh pasture for their livestock.” To clarify, I have no livestock to bring with me on this journey lol, but I do intend to explore many places along the way, perhaps even fresh pasture. So what’s changed going into 2024? What does “the modern nomad life” entail? In its more modern sense, a nomad is someone who would rather wander from place to place than set down roots. A nomadic lifestyle generally describes working remotely while traveling from place to place. However, living as a nomad can be whatever you want it to be. No one gets to define how to become a digital nomad or how to live as a digital nomad for you. The core values guiding The Modern Nomad Life Brand This is personal for me. Values are something rooted in us, usually based on how we were raised, along with any set of belief system you may have. For me, I have recently re-evaluated what my values are. They will be the guiding foundation of “themodernnomdalife.com”. I will share my values in no particular ranking. They are all important to me in how I show up and choose to live. Ultimately it’s what guides me and grounds me. Family Health Spirituality Fitness Inner Peace Love Purpose Wealth Faithfulness Monogamy The Journey to Self-Discovery: Roots and Evolution Reflecting on values, identity, and purpose This is where my therapy has shown me a path forward. An opportunity to reflect and identify who I am, and what is my purpose. To be honest, the purpose journey has been a long one. I feel in complete alignment that this evolution to right here, right now is the path I am meant to be on. I have shared my values with you above and encourage you to explore your own. When you reflect and revisit what you value, it can create immense clarity in your life and an evolution of self-discovery. A nostalgic look back at my childhood in a small town I was so fortunate to have a childhood in a loving home in a small town BC, Canada. My Mom had my brother first, then me. I was around 2 years old when my parents divorced and was raised by my Stepdad and Mom. When my Dad remarried he had 2 more kids. I grew up with 6 siblings in total. I was afforded being enrolled in all the activities / sports I could have imagined. I played minor hockey, soccer, softball, tennis, golf and eventually put all my focus and energy into hockey. I mean what kid doesn’t want to go pro and play in the NHL right? I know, how Canadian of me 🙂 Overcoming life’s hurdles: Tragedy, trauma, and loss In my mid 30’s, tragedy struck and we lost my brother in a horrific way. I will spare the details. This is where I truly became tested on how my life would unfold from here. I honestly don’t even know how to describe what happened next. My life continued and over several years of grief counselling I was finally able to accept the absence of my brother. In 2017 I then lost my Stepdad. The Man who took care of us, showed me old school values and drove me to every hockey practice, tournament, event and grounded me for the foolish things I did as a teenager. How could he be gone now too? In 2018, I lost my Mom. She battled like a warrior 2 rounds over 5 years of Lymphoma Leukemia and eventually succumbed to the cancer. Somewhere in between those years, we lost Grandma, and I put down my beloved dog, a boxer named CJ as well. This year, 2023, I lost my my half-brother to mental health and substance abuse. He was too young to go. I was told I had compounded grief syndrome. Ya think? Perhaps one day, I will be brave enough to write a blog post sharing more on my journey of tragedy, trauma and loss. We are not alone. Finding solace in spirituality, meditation, and self-improvement After so much loss and trauma, I turned to fitness and self-improvement. This kept me safe, sane and on track. I knew the work ahead was going to be a lifetime commitment. I was searching for answers still, something to keep me going. January of 2020 I ended up doing a retreat, called Spirit Quest, in Sedona, AZ. This was life changing in many ways. I did more grief counselling, spiritual hikes in the red rock mountains, breath-work sessions, and letting go of the losses and finding peace within. This was 5 days of being completely out of my comfort zone. I am beyond grateful for the experience. I continue to find ways to grow and improve in my approach to life. Over the last 2 years, I have started to practice simple guided meditations, mostly for my morning routine. I am still trying to figure out how to leave the phone alone at bedtime 🙁 Construction to self-construction: Transforming my career to fulfill my purpose I have worked in the construction industry for 15+ years now. I have project management and leadership skills that I have been able to hone and develop into a successful career. I am passionate about the industry and how collaboration with all the project stakeholders from real estate, design, construction and operations can materialize a physical outcome of the space. I can’t help but feel a rush of inspiration, that stepping into this chapter of building “themodernnomdalife.com” will be my most transformative chapter yet. I am literally starting from a new foundation, block by block, section by section creating a nomadic life-style through self-construction. Sharing Wisdom: Celebrating Life and Inspiring Others Carrying the torch of resilience and wisdom earned through life’s challenges I am wise, I am resilient, I am ready! My goal is to keep sharing openly and transparently with you, my audience; to help inspire and encourage a path forward. I am celebrating life, and all it has to offer through my nomadic lifestyle. Will you join me? Revisiting and living by renewed life values Your values are yours. They can evolve, change and adapt. I have renewed mine, and can’t wait to see where it takes me!
