Your Comfort Zone: Growth Through Values Corey, December 21, 2023February 24, 2024 Embracing Adventure: A Fun Approach to Personal Growth Understanding the importance of stepping out of your comfort zone for self development We have all heard the expression, “there is no growth in the comfort zone”. Stepping out of your comfort zone can look many different ways. This post is about a fun way to take that initial step. Personal growth is rewarding experience for all of us. Good, bad and the uncomfortable! Integrating new experiences with personal values for a holistic approach to growth Have you been craving new experiences and not sure where to start? Simple, what do you value? How do you want to receive joy, and growth? Let’s explore that! The role of reflection in embracing new challenges and learning from them Take a moment and reflect back on what has guided you this far from a values perspective. Are you aligned with those values and the choices made? How did you feel when you made a decision not aligned with your values? These are some simple questions to reflect on as you look to get out of your comfort zone and explore the depths of personal growth. How trying fun, novel activities can lead to profound insights and a new perspective If you’re introspective like me, and crave those “ah-ha” moments then trying new activities can bring a new perspective on where you can find joy and what aligns with your values. This can be anything really, as long as it gets you out of your comfort zone. Where to start? Define what you value, and what activities come up within those values. One example for me is I value inner peace and fitness. I took a new yoga class recently that was well out of my comfort zone but aligned well with 2 of my values! Charting Your Course: The Excitement of a New Chapter Linking the pursuit of fun with the journey of self-improvement Self improvement can be challenging knowing where to start or what to focus on. Keeping it fun and light will definitely help. Might I offer a fun way to begin, by stepping out of your comfort zone and reflecting on your values. For some, this might be your first time while for others it could be a “redefining” of your core values. I recently did this myself and followed this activity called the Values Exercise I found it extremely profound, as it landed me right here, writing this blog post. Once you complete the values exercise it should be your guide to help chart the course of your next chapters in life. If we make choices and decisions based on our values, it can bring joy and comfort knowing you are integrating new experiences with your personal values. Real-life examples of activities that combine fun with personal development Some activities that I have found joy in include: Learning about tropical plants and what variety would live best in my living space. I bought 5 of them and repotted them all with fresh soil, decorative pebbles and stylish pots. They have been thriving for 2 years now! It’s actually quite rewarding seeing them grow! New books can be an easy win. I found some profound insights in “Emotional Clearing” and “The Untethered Soul”. Even if you are not overly spiritual, the insights and knowledge gained just might provide a new perspective needed for your next chapter in life. Yoga, there is something here for everyone. I added a few classes in here and there to my fitness regime and it has helped me connect with myself and challenge me in new ways. Using reflection and feedback to ensure your new adventures align with your core values Don’t forget to check-in with yourself once you have tired a few new activities. Creating space for reflection will allow you to remember why you started or if you need to check and adjust in some way. Go back to your core values and it will intuitively let you know. 40 SHARES Share on Facebook Post on X Follow us Personal Development
